Tips to preserve proteins and lipids in hair
There are plenty of everyday aggressors that could cause hair protein and lipid loss, leaving it vulnerable to damage. Sun exposure, air pollution, and “hard” water that contains unfriendly minerals can all lead to loss of hair proteins and lipids, leaving hair flat and less than lively. Additionally, excessive use of heated styling tools like flat-irons or curling wands, as well as harsh soaps and shampoos can strip hair of its requisite proteins and lipids.
Here are a few tips to preserve proteins and lipids for hair that looks and feels its best:
Increase protein intake: Try to consume foods rich in protein, about 0.8 to 1.2 grams per kilogram of body weight each day. High protein foods include meat, poultry, seafood, beans, peas, lentils, eggs, nuts/nut butters, seeds, and soy products.
